Programmatic SEO in Ghana

An English-language, mobile-money-first market where data cost — not just speed — decides whether your pages get read.

We build Ghanaian programmatic surfaces to a kilobyte budget — because data costs your readers money — with mobile money named on every commercial page and the pricing-guide layer Ghanaian SERPs are still missing.

What we do here

One engine, six moving parts — running in Ghana

Programmatic SEO is not a content order. It is a data model, a template system, a performance budget and a maintenance routine that has to keep working after launch. We own all four.

01

A weight ceiling, not just a speed target

We set an explicit page-weight budget in kilobytes alongside LCP and INP targets, test on entry-level Android over throttled connections, and enforce it in CI. In Ghana a heavy page costs the reader money, and they learn to avoid the domain.

02

Mobile money named on every commercial page

MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AirtelTigo Money support is a template component, alongside delivery and return terms — the payment reality this market actually uses.

03

The pricing-guide layer

Cost and comparison intent is the biggest open gap in Ghanaian SERPs, currently served mostly by outdated forum posts. We build maintained, dated pricing guides from live data and take those positions.

04

Regional coverage with real local data

Accra first, then Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale with genuinely local pricing and named providers. Recycled capital copy for other regions is a liability, not coverage.

05

WhatsApp as the conversion path

Click-to-chat with stated response hours and a named responder on every commercial template, because that is the channel Ghanaian buyers prefer over a contact form.

06

Monthly freshness and pruning

Cedi pricing freshness, index coverage and duplication across regional pages reviewed every month, with the bottom decile pruned.

Categories, Facets, Brands, Buying Guides

Most catalogues bleed traffic through duplicate facets, thin category copy and a crawl budget spent on parameters nobody searches for. We decide which facet combinations deserve an indexable URL, give each one merchandising logic and unique copy, and canonicalise the rest — so the catalogue works as a search asset instead of a crawl trap.

How we get you ranking

The order we work in for Ghana

No batch of pages goes live before the batch before it has been measured. That sequencing is the reason these surfaces survive core updates.

01

Weight and performance baseline

Current field data measured, kilobyte ceiling set, CI gate wired before templates are designed.

02

Demand mapping with a cost-query focus

Query sampling that deliberately surfaces pricing and comparison intent, which is where the open opportunity sits.

03

Entity model and regional taxonomy

Region, city and neighbourhood layers built on the vocabulary Ghanaians search, with delivery zones modelled in data.

04

Pilot batch of 40–120 pages

One vertical in Accra ships first and is measured for indexation and engagement before we scale.

05

Internal link fabric

Hub, region and category sibling links so deep pages stay close to the homepage.

06

Measure, prune, refresh

Monthly coverage, pricing freshness and duplication review with dated refreshes.

Your data, your WordPress, your domain. We bring the engine, the gates and the discipline.

We publish from the source you already trust.

No re-keying, no CSV graveyard.

Google Sheets, Airtable, your product or pricing API, WooCommerce catalogues, or a plain CSV drop. Each row becomes a page, each cedi price refreshes with a visible date, and each removal becomes a proper 410.

Market reality

What building at scale in Ghana is actually like

Ghana is one of the more accessible African markets for a programmatic build because the commercial language is English, which removes the localisation cost that dominates most emerging-market projects. What replaces it is a harder constraint: data is expensive relative to income, and users ration it. A page that weighs 4MB doesn't just load slowly here — it costs the reader money, and they learn to avoid the domain.

The payment layer is mobile money, decisively. Bank of Ghana reporting has mobile money transaction volumes and values at a scale that dwarfs card usage, and MTN MoMo in particular is the default rail. Pages that reference cards without naming MoMo are describing a checkout most of the market doesn't use.

Competitively, Jumia, Tonaton and Jiji hold the marketplace and classifieds layers. That leaves comparison, specification, service, pricing-guide and locality content genuinely open — those layers are thin in Ghanaian SERPs, and a well-built surface can occupy them quickly.

Google is effectively the whole search market; other engines are negligible.
Jumia Ghana leads marketplace visitor numbers, with Jiji and Tonaton the leading classifieds platforms per Statista's Ghanaian marketplace ranking.
English is the commercial search language, though local-language terms appear in food, culture and community queries.
WhatsApp is the primary commerce and enquiry channel, so click-to-chat and business-hours clarity are conversion infrastructure, not extras.
Comparison, pricing-guide and how-much-does-X-cost queries are conspicuously under-served — a large open opportunity in Ghanaian SERPs.
Where it goes wrong

The failure modes we keep finding in Ghana

Scaled pages don't get demoted for being scaled. They get demoted for being interchangeable, slow, or wrong about the place they claim to serve.

Page weight treated as a performance metric, not a cost

In Ghana a heavy page costs the reader real money in data. That changes behaviour: users abandon before render and avoid returning. The budget must be set in kilobytes, not just in seconds.

Mobile money absent from commercial pages

Pages that describe card checkout without naming MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash or AirtelTigo Money are describing a payment flow most of the market doesn't use — and skipping the qualifier buyers search for.

Cedi pricing frozen into HTML

GHS prices move. Hard-coded figures without a visible update date become wrong information, which is a trust failure on exactly the pages meant to convert.

Regional coverage stopping at Accra

Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale carry real demand and almost no localised content. Most builds ignore them, then generate identical thin pages for the remaining regions.

No WhatsApp path

Ghanaian buyers convert through WhatsApp. A page with a form and no click-to-chat with stated response hours is asking the market to use a channel it doesn't prefer.

Playbook

How we build a Ghana surface

Same order every time. The uniqueness gate and the performance budget come before a single page publishes.

  1. 1
    Kilobyte-level performance budget

We set an explicit page-weight ceiling as well as LCP and INP targets, test on entry-level Android over throttled 3G/4G, and enforce it in CI. Weight is the first gate here.

  2. 2
Mobile money as a template component

MoMo, Telecel Cash and AirtelTigo support are named on every commercial page, alongside stated delivery and return terms.

  3. 3
    Pricing-guide template set

The biggest open opportunity in Ghanaian SERPs is cost and comparison content. We build it from live data with dated updates so it stays right.

  4. 4
Regional expansion with real local data

Accra first, then Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale with genuinely local pricing and providers — never a duplicated capital page.

  5. 5
    WhatsApp conversion path

Click-to-chat with stated hours and a named responder on every commercial template, because that is the channel this market actually uses.

  6. 6
    Monthly freshness and pruning

Pricing freshness, index coverage and duplication across regional pages reviewed every month, with the bottom decile pruned.

Questions

Programmatic SEO in Ghana — straight answers

Why does page weight matter more in Ghana than elsewhere?

Because mobile data is expensive relative to income, so a heavy page costs the reader money directly. Users ration data and avoid domains that waste it. We set a kilobyte ceiling alongside the usual timing budgets and enforce it before publish.

Do I need to mention mobile money?

Yes, by name. MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AirtelTigo Money are how this market pays. Describing card checkout only tells most buyers your service isn't built for them.

What content gap is biggest in Ghanaian SERPs?

Cost and comparison content — 'how much does X cost in Ghana' style intent. It carries real volume and is served mostly by outdated forum posts, so a maintained, dated pricing guide can take the position quickly.

Should I publish in Twi or other local languages?

For commercial intent, English is the search language and covers the market. Local-language terms are worth carrying inside English pages where they are how people name a product or dish, but separate Twi page trees rarely justify the cost.

How far beyond Accra should I go?

Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale are worth genuine pages with local pricing and providers. Beyond that, expand only where you have real data — bulk region pages with recycled copy are a liability, not coverage.

Want the Ghana surface scoped before you build it?

We'll audit the data source, size the first batch, set the performance budget and tell you honestly if programmatic is the wrong tool for your category.
