Programmatic SEO in Vietnam

A fast-growing, mobile-first market where Vietnamese diacritics and Facebook's parallel commerce layer decide more than classic on-page SEO does.

We build programmatic SEO surfaces for Vietnamese businesses — modelled for tonal Vietnamese diacritics search behaviour, Zalo-centric commerce habits, and a fast-growing mobile-first market where Google dominates but local marketplace trust still drives conversion.

What we do here

One engine, six moving parts — running in Vietnam

Programmatic SEO is not a content order. It is a data model, a template system, a performance budget and a maintenance routine that has to keep working after launch. We own all four.

01

Diacritic-correct Vietnamese templating

Vietnamese search relies on precise tone-mark diacritics that change word meaning entirely. Templates, slugs and keyword matrices are built with correct diacritic handling throughout — including graceful matching for users who type without them.

02

Zalo and marketplace-aware commerce pages

Zalo, Shopee and Lazada dominate a large share of Vietnamese commerce discovery and messaging-based checkout. Product and service pages link cleanly into these flows rather than assuming a standalone web checkout.

03

Province and region geography

Local intent runs through Vietnam's provinces and major regional groupings (North, Central, South, with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City as clear demand centres). We model this explicitly rather than flattening the country into one national page.

04

Mobile-first, low-cost-device performance budget

A large share of Vietnamese mobile traffic runs on entry-level Android over 4G outside major cities. We hold LCP under 2.5s and INP under 200ms against that baseline.

05

Uniqueness gate against thin aggregator noise

Vietnamese search results carry a real volume of thin directory and aggregator content. Every template enforces a minimum-unique-content threshold so pages compete on substance.

06

Index governance, monthly

Coverage reports, crawl-budget triage, cannibalisation checks between diacritic and non-diacritic query variants, and pruning of the bottom decile.

Categories, Facets, Brands, Buying Guides

Most catalogues bleed traffic through duplicate facets, thin category copy and a crawl budget spent on parameters nobody searches for. We decide which facet combinations deserve an indexable URL, give each one merchandising logic and unique copy, and canonicalise the rest — so the catalogue works as a search asset instead of a crawl trap.

Real estate

City × district × ward listing architecture

Batdongsan.com.vn structures listings down to the ward level across Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and secondary cities, giving hyper-local search a genuine geographic entity to target.

  • Ward-level pages are treated as first-class entities beneath district
  • Coverage extends beyond the two major cities to secondary provinces
  • Project pages separate developer data from individual unit listings

How we get you ranking

The order we work in for Vietnam

No batch of pages goes live before the batch before it has been measured. That sequencing is the reason these surfaces survive core updates.

01

Demand and diacritic audit

We map real Vietnamese search demand — including both diacritic and non-diacritic query variants — by province, and identify where national aggregators leave coverage thin.

02

Entity model and URL architecture

Diacritic-safe title tags and a taxonomy that keeps toned and non-toned query variants of the same entity pointed at one canonical page.

03

Pilot batch of 50–200 pages

Shipped and measured on mobile traffic before any scale decision.

04

Scale with quality gates

Controlled publishing waves with the uniqueness gate, performance budget and schema validation on every page.

05

Internal link fabric

Regional and provincial hubs generated from the entity graph, so authority reaches Central and Mekong Delta pages instead of pooling in Hanoi/HCMC content.

06

Measure, prune, refresh

Monthly review of what ranks per province; underperforming pages get rewritten or consolidated.

Market reality

What building at scale in Vietnam is actually like

Vietnamese uses a Latin script but layers on six tones marked with diacritics, and a huge share of real search queries are typed without them entirely — on a phone keyboard, typing accented Vietnamese is slower, so many users default to unaccented input and expect the engine to resolve it correctly. A programmatic template that only targets fully diacritic-marked query forms misses a large, entirely legitimate segment of real search behaviour.

Vietnam's e-commerce and local-discovery landscape is also unusually fragmented between search and social. Facebook and, increasingly, TikTok Shop function as primary discovery and transaction channels for a significant share of small and medium commerce, meaning a programmatic SEO strategy that ignores social commerce entirely is optimizing for only part of the actual buyer journey.

The market itself is growing fast, urbanizing quickly, and skews young and mobile-first — a large share of internet access happens on budget Android devices over 4G, particularly outside Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, so performance budgets have to be set for that reality rather than for a fibre connection in a District 1 office.

Google holds an overwhelming majority of Vietnamese search share, with negligible presence from alternative engines, making this close to a pure-Google optimisation environment technically.
Social commerce is the real complication: Facebook Marketplace/Pages and TikTok Shop capture a meaningful share of product discovery and purchase decisions that never touch a traditional search engine at all.
AI Overviews and assistant-style summaries are arriving in Vietnamese-language search later than in English-language markets, but growing quickly on comparison and how-to queries, rewarding pages with clear, extractable answer blocks.
Where it goes wrong

The failure modes we keep finding in Vietnam

Scaled pages don't get demoted for being scaled. They get demoted for being interchangeable, slow, or wrong about the place they claim to serve.

Targeting only fully diacritic-marked query forms

A large share of real Vietnamese queries are typed without tone marks on mobile keyboards; templates and on-site search that require exact diacritic matches miss genuine demand.

Ignoring Facebook and TikTok Shop as discovery channels

A commerce-focused programmatic page with no linked social storefront misses a share of the buyer journey that, for many product categories, happens entirely outside search.

Desktop-tuned Core Web Vitals

Templates validated on Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City office fibre routinely fail LCP and INP budgets on the budget Android and 4G connections common nationwide, especially outside the two largest cities.

Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City bias in a regionally diverse country

Content written from a single major-city perspective misses regional dialect and pricing differences in Da Nang, Can Tho and other secondary cities.

Encoding inconsistencies across Vietnamese diacritics

Mixed Unicode normalisation forms (NFC vs NFD) for Vietnamese text can cause the same word to be treated as two different strings across a template pipeline, fragmenting entity signals.

Playbook

How we build a Vietnam surface

Same order every time. The uniqueness gate and the performance budget come before a single page publishes.

  1. 1
Build query coverage for both accented and unaccented forms

Track diacritic and non-diacritic variants as one canonical entity, since a meaningful share of genuine mobile queries drop tone marks entirely.

  2. 2
    Normalise Vietnamese Unicode consistently

Enforce a single normalisation form (typically NFC) across the entire content pipeline so the same word isn't silently treated as multiple strings.

  3. 3
Pair commerce pages with active social storefronts

Linked, current Facebook Page/Shop and, where relevant, TikTok Shop presence on every commerce-facing programmatic page.

  4. 4
    Set a budget-Android, 4G performance baseline

LCP and INP measured against a low-to-mid-range Android profile on throttled 4G, enforced in CI, not just tested on a flagship device on office wifi.

  5. 5
Regionalise beyond the two largest cities

Distinct pricing and dialect-aware content for Da Nang, Can Tho and other secondary hubs instead of a single Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City template.

  6. 6
Publish in waves and monitor both search and social referral

Batch releases tracked in Search Console alongside social-referral data, since a page's real performance here includes traffic that never came from an organic search click.

Questions

Programmatic SEO in Vietnam — straight answers

Do we need to target queries without diacritics separately?

Not as separate pages — treat accented and unaccented forms as one entity, but make sure your content and metadata cover both in practice.

Is social commerce really part of an SEO strategy in Vietnam?

Functionally, yes. A meaningful share of the buyer journey for SME and consumer goods categories happens on Facebook and TikTok Shop rather than through search.

How different is Da Nang or Can Tho demand from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City?

Materially, in pricing expectations and regional phrasing. Major-city-only templates read as generic outside the two largest cities.

What's the single highest-leverage technical fix?

Consistent Unicode normalisation across the pipeline, closely followed by budget-Android performance tuning.

How long before we see indexation?

First crawl within days; meaningful impression data typically three to five weeks in, once diacritic coverage and performance budgets are properly addressed.

Want the Vietnam surface scoped before you build it?

We'll audit the data source, size the first batch, set the performance budget and tell you honestly if programmatic is the wrong tool for your category.
